The West London Hospital Nurses league was founded in 1933 and was disbanded in 1994 after the hospital closed in 1993. WHL had been a successful training school for medical students and nurses. However, it was sold by the NHS for economic reasons following yet another reorganisation.
The 60th anniversary of the League was celebrated in May 1993 at Lambeth Palace and over 100 members attended.
Many felt strongly that a reunion and benevolent group should be set up in order that WLH nurses, both retired and still working, could keep in touch. As a result a reunion was held at the RAF Club in Piccadilly and has been an annual event every May for the past 14 years.
Through various means we have contacted many people, and we hope to have over 60 people attending this year’s reunion lunch on Saturday 9th May.
Reading all the letters which people have sent, it is evident that many doctors and nurses who trained at the WLH still wish to keep in contact and share very happy memories, even though some are now living in different parts of the world.
